In this interview, recorded at the 2019 Global Ethics Summit, David S. Huntley, Senior Executive Vice President & Chief Compliance Officer, AT&T spoke to Ethisphere about taking the modern media company’s compliance program to the next level and the value of collaborating with peers through organizations like the Business Ethics Leadership Alliance (BELA).
“We have about 150 compliance professionals that report into me and their charge is to help the business get right…right,” said Huntley during the interview. “We do risk assessments (globally), compliance reviews, we work with the business to help them meet their compliance obligations.”
In an effort to build the company’s compliance program, when Huntley took on the role at AT&T, he wanted to use technology, data and emerging processes to get the job done. “The foundation of our compliance program is to let the business units know that we are here to help you do what you need to do and with that, building in compliance into the fabric of a product or service is better than coming along later saying that the product is supposed to do X, Y or Z — instead, let’s bolt on a way to ensure that the product is in compliant with the law.”
